Solution: When one substance mixes with another substance.
Vein: A narrow crack filled with a certain kind of mineral that is very different from its surrounding rock.

Processes that form minerals
Minerals from magma:
Mineral crystals that form from magma usually form underground and grow larger if left untouched for a long time.
The longer it takes the magma/lava to cool, the larger the crystals. Magma deep below the surface cools slowly and forms large crystals.
the amount of gas and chemical composition of the magma also determine the size of the crystals.
Minerals from hot water solutions
when a hot water solution cools the minerals crystallize
metals that crystallize in the cracks in rock are called veins
minerals form around the mid-ocean ridge when water seeps into cracks in the ocean floor and is heated by the magma.it then gets forced out and when it touches the cold ocean water it cools and crystallizes
Minerals formed by evaporation
when a water solution evaporates the minerals crystallize
some minerals that form from evaporation are: halite, gypsum, calcite, and potassium
Where minerals are found
most commonly found near volcanic activity or mountains
